Avengers: Endgame Review

Avengers: Endgame

11 years. 22 films. After the shocking events of Avengers: Infinity War, fans are eager to find out what will become of our fan favorite heroes—both dust and non-dust. Yet expectations are also sky high for the final film in the Infinity Saga. Does Avengers: Endgame provide fans with a satisfying conclusion to the saga or does it crumble underneath its own massive hype?

Luckily, and thankfully, Avengers: Endgame will exceedingly surpass everyone’s expectations. It’s hilarious, exhilarating, and extremely emotional. Be sure to bring tissues for all the tears you’ll shed and all the nerdgasms you’ll have.

Avengers: Endgame follows the events of Avengers: Infinity War. Trying to recuperate after the loss of 50% of the universe’s population, the Avengers come up with a plan to try and bring everyone back.

If you think interweaving twenty-two stories into one saga is difficult then imagine trying to put together an ending that fits such an epic saga. That’s the biggest challenge Marvel had to face when it came to Avengers: Endgame. Yet the film will exceed every single expectation you have about the film and more. It’s kind of miraculous actually. Trying to come up with an ending that will satisfy rabid fans isn’t an easy thing to do. Just ask Mass Effect, The Sopranos, and Lost. Yet Avengers: Endgame ends the Infinity Saga by throwing the entire kitchen sink at you.

First of all, as depressing as the ads may have been. There’s still a lot of humor in this film. Some of it coming from the usual places, but there are a lot of unexpected laughs from some unexpected people. As Joss Whedon once said, “make it dark, make it grim, make it tough, but then, for the love of God, tell a joke.” That mantra has always been a staple at Marvel Studios and it’s good to see that Endgame implements it here too. After all, audiences are already nervous about which characters will bite the big one here. So it’s good to laugh to relieve some of that tension.

But, make no mistake, things will get tense in this film. If you’ve followed this franchise from the very beginning and attached yourself to these characters then you will be a nervous wreck throughout the entire film. Yet Endgame does a great job making sure that whatever your expectations are, it won’t play out as you might think.

However, there are certain fan theories (not THAT fan theory) that do occur in this film. Unfortunately, this storyline does cause a few plotholes in the film. It’s not necessarily plotholes that’ll ruin the film, but there’ll be those people who will nitpick at these glaring plotholes regardless. It’s a tricky situation that’s a necessity for the overall storyline.

In addition, the film isn’t one giant battle like Infinity War was. The film gives audiences a lot of character moments where we delve into the mindset of our heroes. We get to see how they cope and how they manage themselves after the devastating events of Infinity War. After all, when something tragic happens to people, they’re going to need some time to process. That’s just how humans operate and Marvel’s heroes are no different. They may be superhuman but they’re still human.

That being said, the film is still so incredibly epic. It’s a big film where the payoff will please every single fan who grew up reading the comics. Everything that you imagined while reading those comics pales in comparison to what you’ll see on screen. Needless to say, there will be a ton of moments where fans will nerdgasm at what they see.

This is why everyone involved in the film has done an extraordinary job here. The cast has grown with these characters for several years now. Thus, they naturally became these characters and that’s why their performances are all fantastic across the board. They don’t have to think about being the character because they are the character now. As a result, they’re able to showcase more emotion in the film. However, since the cast is so large. Not everyone will get a good amount of screentime in the film. You can guess as to who gets more screentime but once again, it’s not what you think.

Overall, Avengers: Endgame is an absolute triumph. The film delivers on an ending that is both epic and emotional. Not to mention, it’s a little bit funny too. The film may be three hours long but those three hours will fly by quickly. So whatever Phase 4 brings, it’s still not going to be the same without the beloved “O.G. Six.” However, if they can pull off in the next ten years of Marvel Studios that they did with the previous ten years then we’re in for a huge treat. Buckle up.
