In our world today, we live completely inundated by our favorite franchises wanting to do crossovers. Everything from movies like Marvel’s Avengers and DC’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, to television shows such as CW’s DC-verse and the Cartoon Networks’ Crossover Nexus episodes. Sometimes the result of these endeavors are successful and incredibly, and sometimes they don’t always land the plane properly. Sorry, Arrow fans.
Then, sometimes you get something that is so unexpected and wonderful that when it lands in your lap, you can’t help but squeal like a comic book nerd stumbling across an issue of Action Comics #1 in mint condition. At least I did. Yup, I squealed. DC dropped a trailer of the animated film based on the 2015 comic series of the same name: Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! The series ran for two years, and gave fans one of the most unique team-ups on paper. Now, we get to see those pages come to life in the new feature debuting the voices of Troy Baker, the voice actor from video games Batman: Arkham Origins and The Last of Us. Baker becomes the first to ever play both Batman and the Joker in the same film.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the rest of the cast is a star-studded team that will definitely bring a smile to your face:
“Team Bats is rounded out by Crazy Ex-Girlfriend‘s Rachel Bloom as Batgirl, Hart of Dixie‘s Ben Giroux as Robin, Seinfeld‘s Brian George as Alfred, and Parks and Recreation‘s Jim Meskimen as Commissioner Gordon.
Emmy winner Darren Criss (The Assassination of Gianni Versace) leads the voice cast behind the Turtles as Raphael, accompanied by Saturday Night Live‘s Kyle Mooney as Michelangelo, Grace & Frankie‘s Baron Vaughn as Donatello, and The Woody Woodpecker Show‘s Eric Bauza as Leonardo.
John DiMaggio (Adventure Time) voices Mr. Freeze, Tara Strong (Teen Titans Go!) voices both Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) voices Penguin, Carlos Alazraqui (Reno 911!) voices Bane, Cas Anvar (The Expanse) voices Ra’s al Ghul, Keith Ferguson (Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends) voices Baxter Stockman and Two-Face, Andrew Kishino (The Lion Guard) voices Shredder, and Meskimen voices another character with Scarecrow.”
Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be released on Digital and on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack and Blu-ray Combo Pack on March 31, 2019.
