POLL RESULTS: Should Tim Burton and Michael Keaton Make a Third Batman?

Director Tim Burton and star Michael Keaton redefined the nature of superhero films with 1989’s Batman and 1992’s Batman Returns, but never got to round out the trilogy as both passed on 1995’s Batman Forever. Now that the original Batman is turning 30 this year, should Tim Burton and Michael Keaton reunite for one last Batman movie? ComingSoon.net asked our readers this question and over 13,000 of you responded! Find out the official results of the poll below!

1st Question: SHOULD TIM BURTON AND MICHAEL KEATON MAKE A THIRD BATMAN MOVIE TOGETHER?

Yes, take my money now! (88%, 11,702 votes)

No, their era is over. (12%, 1611 votes)

As you can see an overwhelming majority of those who voted want to see this happen. With Hollywood attempting to make legacy sequels out of everything from Rambo to RoboCop, a third Batman outing with Burton and Keaton attached would be a huge cultural event. Warner Bros. should take note of the level of enthusiasm we’re seeing for this idea.

2nd Question: SHOULD BATMAN III BE BASED ON…

The Dark Knight Returns (25%, 2914 votes)

Batman Beyond (36%, 4161 votes)

BOTH (38%, 4407 votes)

This question seemed to divide readers in almost equal proportions. A slight majority of you wished that a hypothetical Batman III would take its cues from both the animated series Batman Beyond and Frank Miller’s seminal graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns. The truth is a lot of TDKR has already been pilfered by both Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy and Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. And in case you didn’t realize this, the likelihood of someone like Tim Burton sitting down to watch episodes of a twenty year-old 90’s cartoon series like Batman Beyond are slim to nil. However, a clever screenwriter under the guidance of Burton could take seeds of ideas from Batman Beyond, such as an older Bruce Wayne training a younger replacement Batman, and use them as a jumping off point, similar to how Logan used the kernel of the Old Man Logan comic book as inspiration.
