Y: The Last Man series picked up by FX

The Eisner Award-winning graphic novel series, Y: The Last Man, has officially been picked up and ordered by FX. It follows the main characters Yorick Brown, his loyal pet monkey Ampersand, and Agent 355 as they embark on an adventure across the post-apocalyptic world that has killed all men and male animals. The official series will be titled “Y” and stars Diane Lane, Barry Keoghan, Imogen Poots, Lashana Lynch, Juliana Canfield, Marin Ireland, and Amber Tamblyn.

Michael Green and Aïda Mashaka Croal are the showrunners and executive producers. They are joined by Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force and Brian K. Vaughan, who are also the developers and executive producers the series. The pilot episode is directed by Melina Matsoukas, who also serves as an executive producer.

The series is based on the comic by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra where Yorick Brown is the last man on earth. He’ll confront women from different communities, with some who are out to destroy.

Y: The Last Man Synopsis: “On July 17, 2002, all living mammals with a Y chromosome—including embryos and sperm—simultaneously die, with the exception of a young amateur escape artist named Yorick Brown and his Capuchin monkey, Ampersand. Many women die from disasters caused by the men’s deaths, such as plane crashes. Society is plunged into chaos as infrastructures collapse, and the surviving women everywhere try to cope with the loss of the men, and the belief that, barring a rapid, major scientific breakthrough or other extraordinary happening, humanity is doomed to extinction.

Yorick’s mother, a member of the U.S. Congress, commissions Agent 355 of the Culper Ring to protect Yorick. The two travel to meet geneticist and cloning expert Dr. Allison Mann, who works to discover why Yorick survived and find a way to save humankind. Due to damage at Mann’s laboratory in Boston, the trio first travel across the country to Mann’s other lab in San Francisco, then to Australia and Japan.”
