Ubisoft has been promoting Assassin’s Creed Odyssey as an action adventure game with the option of choosing a lover, whether they are male or female. Well, with the recent DLC, “Shadow Heritage,” players had to take part in a heterosexual relationship that resulted in a little offspring. Well, there are gamers who weren’t too happy about the story being told since they had no other option. Due to the outrage, Ubisoft has decided to change the ending to the DLC.

Ubisoft has issued a statement in its forums to let the fans know that there will be updates to the “Shadow Heritage” DLC and the upcoming “Bloodline” episode.

“After hearing player feedback and discussing within the development team we are making changes to a cutscene and some dialogue in Shadow Heritage to better reflect the nature of the relationship for players selecting a non-romantic storyline. These changes, along with renaming a trophy/achievement, are being made now and will be implemented in an upcoming patch.

We’ve also been carefully looking at the next episode, Bloodline, to ensure the paths that players experience mirror the choices they make in game.”

The outcry echoes the similar backlash EA and BioWare received for the ending to Mass Effect 3. The companies have mentioned that the Mass Effect series will offer choices that matter, but no matter what you do, the ending is very limited.

GLAAD, the LGBTQ media advocacy organization, has praised Ubisoft for its actions:

Additionally, the GLAAD Media Awards is making video game news by adding a new category called Outstanding Video Game, making it the first video game category for the ceremony. The nominees include Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Check out the list below:

  • The Sims Mobile (Electronic Arts)
