The new teaser trailer for Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters sequel is here, and it’s definitely a teaser with only 45 seconds. We see a barn in the middle of nowhere, with lights flashing inside. The camera goes closer, and we see a vehicle cover with the wind blowing to reveal the Ecto-1, the vehicle used by the Ghostbusters to help them fight ghosts. The screen then turns black to reveal Summer 2020.
There’s a lot of mystery surrounding it, and we believe it’s successful in doing its job of piquing interest without showing a lot. Jason Reitman is an interesting choice as the director since his films include Tully starring Charlize Theron, Juno starring Ellen Page, and Thank You for Smoking starring Aaron Eckhart. However, what’s fitting is that he’s the son of Ivan Reitman, the director of the original Ghostbusters films. The film is continuing the journey of the original Ghostbusters; however, it’s not known yet whether Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson will be back. (Harold Ramis passed away in 2014.)
Fans are definitely excited about this version compared to the reboot done by Paul Feig. The reboot grossed $229.1 million with a budget of $144 million. The marketing budget is pretty high, and the film needed to make at least $500 million to be profitable. Of course, fans of the original didn’t want to see a new cast, and that most likely hurt sales despite positive reviews from critics.
“I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans,” Reitman said. “This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”
There will be plenty of Ghostbusters announcements in the coming months.
“This is very early, and I want the film to unwrap like a present,” Reitman continued. “We have a lot of wonderful surprises and new characters for the audience to meet.”
The film is written by Reitman and Gil Kenan.
The Ghostbusters sequel will hit theaters in the summer of 2020 with principal photography commencing in a few months.
