The teaser trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home has hit the internet today, and it’s got a lot of things to excite fans. The first big thing is that we get to see Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio, a popular Spider-Man villain who has the ability to create illusions. There’s also Nick Fury, who helps Peter Parker fight crime on the other side of the world. And of course, there’s flirting between Aunt May and Happy Hogan. Wait, whatever happened to the tease between Aunt May and Tony Stark? Well, he’s with Pepper Potts now, so there’s that.
So far it looks like Jake Gyllenhaal is the perfect choice for Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio. In the comics, he’s known for being a stuntman and special effects wizard, with aspirations of making it big in Hollywood. Let’s see if Far From Home is going to update his backstory to make him more relatable and menacing.
There’s also a shot of Mysterio going up against a humanoid water creature. Could this be Hydro-Man, or is it an illusion created by Mysterio? Let’s hope Hydro-Man does have an appearance.
With Marvel Studios putting things very close to the chest for events after Avengers: Endgame, it’s curious to see how Sony Pictures is going to promote Spider-Man: Far From Home. Avengers: Infinity War ended with half the population gone from the universe, which included characters biting the dust like Spider-Man, Black Panther, and members from Guardians of the Galaxy. So far Marvel Studios has been promoting Captain Marvel, with no real announcements of Marvel films happening after Avengers: Endgame is released. You don’t want people thinking that everything’s going to be fine at the end of the day if you reveal that Black Panther 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 are coming out.
Well, Sony Pictures feels differently because Spider-Man: Homecoming is coming out this summer, so they want people to know that their movie is coming out. Let’s face it, Sony needs all the help they can get when it comes to marketing. Marvel Studios… not so much.
