The Atlantic published an exposé article that targeted Bryan Singer, with those in the piece accusing him of sexually abusing and raping young boys. The director has defended himself saying that the reports are false and that Esquire was originally planning on publishing but decided against it after investigating. Even with the bad press surrounding the director, he will remain as the director for the upcoming Red Sonja film.

Singer said, “The last time I posted about this subject, Esquire magazine was preparing to publish an article written by a homophobic journalist who has a bizarre obsession with me dating back to 1997. After careful fact-checking and, in consideration of the lack of credible sources, Esquire chose not to publish this piece of vendetta journalism.”

Avi Lerner, CEO of Millennium Films and Red Sonja producer, has released a statement that he has no plans of getting rid of Singer on the project.

“I continue to be in development for Red Sonja and Bryan Singer continues to be attached,” said Lerner. “The over $800 million Bohemian Rhapsody has grossed, making it the highest grossing drama in film history, is testament to his remarkable vision and acumen. I know the difference between agenda driven fake news and reality, and I am very comfortable with this decision. In America people are innocent until proven otherwise.”

In addition to the sexual allegations plaguing Singer, his work conduct in films has painted him in a bad light, especially with his behavior on the set of Bohemian Rhapsody. It’s been reported that he was a no-show during the set and also had confrontations with actor Rami Malek, resulting in him being fired.

Red Sonja is based on the comic book character created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor-Smith under Marvel Comics. Her Marvel origin had her originating from Hyrkania during the Hyborian Age, where she would team up with Conan the Barbarian. Now she’s under Dynamite Entertainment with a different origin that makes her a reincarnation. The character also appeared in the live-action 1985 Red Sonja film starring Brigitte Nielsen as the titular character.
