The days of Batman and Superman teaming up together in the future look dim. Warner Bros. has said that it’s not going to focus on a shared universe, and Henry Cavill, who played Superman, shared a very cryptic video after a lot of reports came out about whether there’s a future for the Kryptonian superhero. Now we have Ben Affleck bowing out of playing Batman in future films.
Ben Affleck played Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice made a lot of money at the box office, but it didn’t quite meet the expectations of Warner Bros. For example, Aquaman, a film focusing on just one character, outdid a movie that was boasting the top tier DC heroes like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman The Flash and Cyborg.
According to Deadline, Affleck is not returning as Batman in the Matt Reeve’s standalone Batman flick. The actor also shared the article, further cementing the report. However, he is excited about The Batman when it hits theaters in the summer of 2021.
Excited for #TheBatman in Summer 2021 and to see @MattReevesLA vision come to life. https://t.co/GNgyJroMIO

Originally Affleck was supposed to direct and write the standalone Batman film. Reeves took over as director and writer. The new director did reveal some information on his Batman film including bringing in the Rogues Gallery and showcasing Batman as “The World’s Greatest Detective.” He even mentioned how there should be a detective mode, which makes me think of the Batman: Arkham games by Rocksteady Studios.
Of course, with this news, fans are sad about Affleck dropping out.
Thank you @BenAffleck for being Batman, It was a ride. This is the scene thats still in my top 5 comic book scenes of all time. Also, @ZackSnyder is a legend for casting you while the internet hated it. You proved them wrong and you have that title. Thank you and best of luck. 🦇 pic.twitter.com/n5etJsDhdT

There’s no official title for the film yet, but right now it’s being called The Batman. It will be hitting theatres on June 25, 2021.
It has also been a big week for other DC movie news including the release of a teaser video for Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). It featured Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, and Ewan McGregor as Black Mask.
