Pedro Pascal revealed as The Mandalorian in live-action Star Wars series

Lucasfilm has been working on producing a Star Wars series for the upcoming Disney+ streaming service with Jon Favreau as the executive producer and writer and Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) as the director of the first episode and executive producer. Today, the studio has announced that Pedro Pascal (Narcos, Game of Thrones, Kingsman: The Golden Circle) will play the main character of The Mandalorian in the series of the same name. He will be joined by Gina Carano (Deadpool), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, Once Upon a Time), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Carl Weathers (Predator), Omid Abtahi (American Gods), Werner Herzog (Jack Reacher), and Nick Nolte (Hulk).

“We’re having a great time working with this incredibly talented group and excited for everyone to see what we’re up to,” says Executive Producer Jon Favreau.

This is an impressive cast, and Pascal has been rising as an actor, especially since becoming one of the leads in the later seasons of Narcos. He instantly became a favorite character when he appeared in HBO’s Game of Thrones as Oberyn Martell, known for his fighting abilities, lust for sex, and his passion for avenging his family.

Dave Filoni is one of the developers of Star Wars shows like Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, and with him being attached to the project, fans can be hopeful to see a fleshed-out universe featuring a Mandalorian.

The Mandalorian is currently filming, and other directors attached include Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok). Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson also serve as executive producers.

There are some talented filmmakers here, especially with Waititi coming off the critically acclaimed Thor: Ragnarok.

The live-action series, The Mandalorian, will be exclusive to Disney+, and the streaming service will launch in late 2019 in the U.S.
