As the holiday season approaches and Black Friday just a week away, it’s time to start thinking about what gifts to get for the people in your life. A few will opt for getting their family members or loved ones a new smartphone. And for that gamer in your life, you can kill two birds with one stone.
Starting today, AT&T has started selling the Razer 2 gaming phone. The phone company will become the first exclusive US carrier for the Razer 2. Originally you were only able to buy the Razer phone unlocked through Razers website. This partnership is a big one for Razer as it allows AT&T customers to purchase the phone in installment plans.
Gaming phones haven’t really gained much popularity in the smartphone market just yet. Phones such as Samsung, Google Pixel, One Plus, and Apple, create phones that are workhorses. They’re intended to keep up with the heavy use of consumers day to day tasks, and not really be a gaming powerhouse. With games such as Fortnite and PUBG being available on mobile devices, gaming addicts can now buy a phone that can handle their favorites games with undeniable speed and power.
Razer, of course, is known for creating top-notch gaming peripherals and systems. So it was only a matter of time before they moved into the mobile phone market. The Razer 2 boasts one of the fastest screens in the smartphone market today, with its 5.7” screen with a 1440×2560 resolution and a refresh rate of 120hz, which includes both touch sampling and display refresh rate. It’s also 50% brighter and supports HDR content.
Inside the phone, you’ll get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 8gb of memory, and an Adreno 630 GPU. Storage wise you’ll get 64gb with an expandable microSD slot that supports up to 1TB. For sound, the phone has dual front-firing stereo speakers with dual amplifiers, Dolby Atmos Technology, and a 24-bit DAC audio adapter. For camera enthusiasts, the Razer 2 has a dual rear camera system. The wide angle lens is f/1.75 while the telephoto comes in at f/2.6. Both will be 12mp, have Dual phase detection autofocus, and will be able to shoot video with a resolution up to 4K. The front-facing camera is an 8MP f/2.0 lens that can shoot 1080p video.
Operating system wise you’ll get Android 8.1, and to power everything up, the Razer 2 has a 4000 mAh battery with Qualcomm QuickCharge 4.0+ and support for wireless charging. The phone will be rated IP67 and will be water resistant up to one meter. Now, of course, this wouldn’t be a Razer product without the Razer Chroma logo. You’ll be able to customize the logo by choosing a color from the 16.8 million color options, all of which can be done through the CHROMA configurator App.
The Razer 2 will retail at AT&T for $799 or $26.67 a month for 30 months. The Razer 2 will also be available at Best Buy or a Razer.com.
