KontrolFreek’s Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Edition: Review

KontrolFreek

For the past few weeks, we’ve been putting in a lot of hours in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – Blackout. It’s a fun, fast-paced game that often leads to some disheartening defeats. The key to victory in Blackout is to survive the longest and to do that, you’ll need to be quick, attentive, and strategic. To help maximize your quick, cat-like reflexes, KontrolFreek has released a Black Ops 4 special edition thumbsticks to take your gaming a step further. The Special Edition thumbsticks come in two different styles. The first showcases the Black Ops 4 logo, and the other highlights the destructive Grav-Slam specialist “Ruin.”

The Black Ops 4 performance thumbsticks are designed in collaboration with Treyarch studios. It’s dressed in a black and orange color scheme that matches the video games signature look. On both right and left thumbstick, you’ll find a laser etched Black Ops 4 insignias. Both sticks utilize Kontrol Freeks hybrid design. They measure 11.8mm in height and can easily be clipped onto your PS4 controller thumbsticks. The 11.8mm height will offer players a longer range of motion while using less force and ensures that it maximizes your accuracy while in game.

The Grav Slam edition brings an orange and silver color scheme. Ruins insignia is laser etched into both left and right thumbsticks, which will complete the representation of Ruins Grav Slam weapon. The thumbsticks are mismatched in height with the left measuring 6.7mm in height, while the right measures 11.86mm. Both sticks feature KontrolFreeks convex design, with the mid-rise height increasing your control and grip, and the high-rise height increasing your range of motion, accuracy, and precision.

Over the last few days, I’ve been using the new Black Ops 4 KontrolFreeks, specifically the Grav-Slam edition. The mixed height for me is perfect when I’m playing Blackout or just any other game. The mid-rise height makes it easy for me to quickly move in certain directions, while the high-rise height makes it extremely easy for me to rapidly snap to an enemy and shoot them down. In Blackout, the difference between life and death is all dependent on how quick you are, and with the thumbsticks, it does allow me to be faster than my enemy at times. The laser etched logos supply a nice grip, but one downside that I’ve run into a few times while playing is that my thumbstick would come off when I was frantically pushing the extended thumbstick past its maximum distance. I do wish that KontrolFreek had a more reliable way to clip on their thumbstick extenders, but nonetheless, the new Black Op 4 extenders offer me long hours of gameplay without having any fatigue in my thumbs and provide me with an added sense of performance and accuracy.

Score 4.5/5
