Elizabeth Banks to develop Science Fair doc into a movie

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Emmy Award nominated actress and director Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect) is currently in the process of developing a new film adaptation based on National Geographic’s 2018 documentary titled Science Fair. Through her Brownstone Production, Banks will be teaming up with Universal Pictures to co-produce the film. Check the trailer for the documentary below!

Science Fair follows the story of nine high school students from around the globe as they navigate rivalries, setbacks and, of course, hormones, on their journey to compete at The International Science and Engineering Fair or ISEF. More than a thousand of the smartest and quirkiest teens from over 78 different countries face off with only one destined to be named Best in Fair.

The docu film was directed by the Emmy Award-nominated filmmaking duo Cristina Costantini and Darren Foster, which earned them the audience awards at Sundance and SXSW.

The adaptation will be penned by Jordan Weiss (Hulu’s Dollface). Brownstone Productions’ Max Handelman and Alison Small are the film’s producers along with Costantini and Foster serving as associate producers. Universal’s VP of Production Sara Scott will oversee for the studio.

Bank’s film credits include The  Hunger Games Film series opposite Jennifer Lawrence, Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man Trilogy, the comedy drama Our Idiot Brother starring Paul Rudd and the music comedy film Pitch Perfect which she also produced. Her next directing gig is Sony’s upcoming Charlie’s Angels reboot,which she will also produce. The reboot is expected to debut on November 2019.
