Written by Ace Atkins, Robert B. Parker’s Wonderland is part of the Spenser series, which is named after a fictional character in a series of detective novels that was first written by Parker before Ace Atkins took over the series. Spenser is a character that is fresh out of prison and inevitably sucked back into Boston’s underbelly as he uncovers the truth about a sensational murder and the twisted conspiracy behind it.

Wahlberg is set to star in the film with Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, Patriots Day, Deepwater Horizon) directing from an adapted script by Sean O’Keefe. Wahlberg will also produce the feature alongside Berg via his Film 44 banner, Neal H. Moritz via his Original Film banner and Stephen Levinson.  Film 44’s John Logan Pierson will executive produce alongside Toby Ascher.

Wonderland is the fifth collaboration between Wahlberg and Berg, who previously worked together on Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon, Patriot’s Day, and Mile 22 which premiered on August 17 and already has a sequel in the works.

Robert B. Parker’s Spenser character has been the basis for 48 novels, which all became New York Time best sellers. Long acknowledged as the dean of American crime fiction, Parker was named Grand Master of the Edgar Awards in 2002 by the Mystery Writers of America, an honor shared with earlier masters such as Alfred Hitchcock and Ellery Queen.
