George Miller’s Three Thousand Years of Longing looking for home
The man behind the Mad Max franchise is trying to get back in the director’s chair, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Acclaimed filmmaker George Miller is shopping around his next story, Three Thousand Years of Longing, also known by Djinn. Miller is planning to introduce his latest project to potential buyers at the American Film Market sometime next week. FilmNation will be handling the project’s international sales.
Very little is known about the project at this point, other than it’s an epic love story that involves a genie. It’s also being reported that the tone of Miller’s latest endeavor will be quite the opposite of his most recent effort, Mad Max: Fury Road, which won six Academy Awards.

That’s nothing new for Miller. In addition to launching the Mad Max franchise, which started in 1981 and made Mel Gibson a superstar, the Australian filmmaker also wrote the screenplay for the beloved kid’s movie Babe, as well as wrote and directed the sequel Babe: Pig in the City, as well as the animated Happy Feet franchise.
Miller had also planned to helm a Justice League movie roughly 10 years ago. It was to be filmed in his native Australia and got relatively far along in pre-production before the project was ultimately shelved for tax reasons. He also has two more Mad Max stories he wants to tell, though it’s unclear if or when those movies will be underway. Last year, the director was suing Warner Bros. over claims of a $7 million unpaid bonus owed to his production company for the 2015 blockbuster.
