20th Century Fox to adapt Spy School novels

The best-selling novel series, Spy School, is headed for the big screen, per a report from Deadline. Movie studio 20th Century Fox has optioned author Stuart Gibbs series, who will write the screenplay, which is based on the first novel of the series.

Fox bought my first two scripts and gave me my first overall deal when I was starting out as a writer. They have always shown such a strong commitment to adapting great books into great family movies. So I am very excited to be working with them again, and I think this is the perfect studio to adapt Spy School,” Gibbs said of the news.

Spy School tells the story of Ben Ripley, a hapless middle-schooler with dreams of becoming a spy for the CIA. After he’s admitted into a junior CIA academy after a case of mistaken identity, Ripley’s determined to prove himself a worthy agent. Assuming he survives the whole experience.

Gibbs has also written the bestselling books FunJungle and Moon Base Alpha series, as well as screenplays for movies like See Spot Run and Repli-Kate, Additionally, the author has worked on a number of animated films and developed shows for Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, ABC, and Fox. Right now he’s touring in support of the 6th book in Spy Schooseries, Spy School Goes South

Kira Goldberg will oversee the project on behalf of 20th Century Fox.
