The Purge Season 1 Episode 2 Recap
In the previous episode of The Purge, we met an interesting cast of characters. First, Rick and his wife, Jenna, who were attending a party to celebrate the Purge. Then Jane, a woman who has hired someone to kill for her. Finally, we were introduced to Miguel, a former Marine, who was attempting to track down his sister, Penelope, who had joined a suicide cult. As the episode ended, the Purge commenced. What does the second installment have in store? Let’s find out, as we recap The Purge season 1 episode 2 “Take What’s Yours.”
Rick & Jenna
The couple were visibly discomforted by the presence of a woman they had previously met. Rick was quickly called over by Mr. Stanton and the two begun negotiating funding for Jenna’s housing project. Jenna was approached by this woman and we learned that she is Stanton’s daughter. Rick was given a meeting with Stanton for the following week, to continue their discussions.
Jane
Jane’s hired assassin quickly dispatched a man who attempted to disrupt their exchange. One of the other employees, Allison, working that night, went into Jane’s office and found out about Jane’s plan. Jane returned to the conference room and she thought back to the way her boss had treated her early in her career. Jane and Allison discussed a bad date that Allison recently had, and they then discussed a Purge wishlist. Allison floated the idea that Jane wants to kill her boss, Allison then implied that she had discovered Jane’s secret plan to kill her boss.
Miguel
While using his night vision goggles, Miguel saw people getting shot and set on fire. Miguel found a group of people administering first aid to those injured. The group told him of a local policeman who could help him locate his sister.
Miguel was ambushed by a group of people who attempted to force him out of his car. He was taken prisoner and forced to go through something known as ‘the gauntlet’. Miguel was running through an obstacle course and was shot with an arrow and attacked by two men wielding machetes. He made his way inside of a building and killed both machete wielders, he then navigated through a tunnel filled with moving saw blades. Miguel completed the obstacle course and was given a new car, he then returned to tracking down his sister.
Penelope
Penelope’s bus was moving to its next stop. Melissa, one of the other girls on the bus, asked Penelope about her parent’s death. Penelope reassured her that when you want to die, death doesn’t hurt. The bus arrived at its next stop and Melissa was chosen to be killed next. Melissa refused to leave the bus and Penelope volunteered to take her place. But the leader had her forcibly removed from the bus. Penelope watched and was visibly shaken as she observed Melissa’s death.
