The Original Halloween is Coming Back To Theaters For 40th Anniversary

John Carpenter earned his reputation as “the Master of Horror” with the first Halloween. In 1978, Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode was forced to face the instantly iconic masked killer, Michael Myers, and a franchise was born. Before Laurie and Michael get a rematch in the new Halloween sequel, the original film is getting a 40th anniversary re-release.

Via Entertainment Weekly, CineLife Entertainment is releasing a remastered and restored version of the original Halloween in select theaters. Dean Cundey, the cinematographer of the first Halloween, oversaw the restoration of the film. “We are thrilled to be a part of the 40th anniversary celebration,” said CineLife’s managing director, Mark Rupp. “Working with Compass International Pictures and Trancas International Films to bring the most fear-provoking and enduring horror movies of all time to cinema screens around the globe.”

“I’m thrilled to have the original make its way back into theaters, as we prepare for the release of the sequel,” added Carpenter. “Having both back in theaters this fall is remarkable.”

CineLife Entertainment will roll out the Halloween 40th anniversary re-release on September 27. Curtis is returning for the new Halloween sequel on Friday, October 19. Director David Gordon Green’s new film will ignore all of the previous Halloween movies and revisit Laurie and Michael four decades later. Judy Greer co-stars in the film as Karen Strode, Laurie’s daughter. Andi Matichak also has a major role as Allyson Strode, Karen’s daughter and Laurie’s granddaughter. Andi Matichak, Will Patton, Virginia Gardner, and Nick Castle also co-star in the film.
