Polaroid: Netflix hopes to develop deal for horror film

Deadline reports that Netflix is working to acquire the rights to the new Lars Klevberg horror movie Polaroid. Initially, TWC (via Lantern Entertainment) had Polaroid slated for a Thanksgiving launch last year on October 4. The very next day, the New York Times ran their expose on Harvey Weinstein. Despite the fact that marketing and promotional materials were made for Polaroid by the end of the month, TWC had first moved the film to 2018 before pulling it from their schedule indefinitely.

Though nothing’s set in stone just yet, this would make Polaroid the latest film the streaming service has swooped and saved from development purgatory, including more recent examples like Mowgli and The Cloverfield Paradox.

From the producers of The Ring and The Grudge and based on the award-winning short by Lars Klevberg, comes the next iconic and bold new vision in horror: Polaroid. High school loner Bird Fitcher has no idea what dark secrets are tied to the mysterious Polaroid vintage camera she stumbles upon, but it doesn’t take long to discover that those who have their picture taken meet a tragic end. The story mixes elements of The Ring and Final Destination to create one of the most unique and scary films of the year.

Polaroid stars Kathryn Prescott (Finding CarterTo the Bone), Mitch Pileggi (The X-FilesBasic Instinct), Grace Zabriskie (The GrudgeGone in Sixty Seconds), Tyler Young (EyewitnessWhen We Rise), Keenan Tracey (Bates MotelThe 100), Samantha Logan (The Fosters13 Reasons Why), Priscilla Quintana (StrandedMasters of Sex), Madelaine Petsch (RiverdaleThe Curse of Sleeping Beauty) and Javier Botet (MamaIT).

Polaroid is directed by Lars Klevberg (The WallKong Vinter II) and written by Blair Butler (Attack of the ShowSlasher School). The film is produced by Roy Lee and Chris Bender.
