The Innocents Season 1 Episode 8 Recap

In the previous episode of Netflix’s The Innocents, Halvorson locked Harry in the interrogation room, and June learned what Elena did with the Pennines Five. The Innocents Season 1 Episode 8 began with Halvorson trying to get information from Harry, who only screamed to be let out.

Not a Gift

Halvorson told June that Harry had understood he couldn’t help her and left. June believed him, and she spoke with her mother under Halvorson’s supervision. She told Elena she wanted to stay in Sanctum and get better. June would stay for herself, not Elena.

“This Is Your Waco”

John was not convinced Harry had left. He was suspicious of Halvorson. John believed he had brainwashed the women there and Sanctum was a cult. John pointed out that Sigrid and Runa were supposedly cured, but they remained at Sanctum. He broke into Halvorson’s office, but did not manage to find Harry locked in the interrogation room.

Dementia

Runa’s dementia was getting worse. She hallucinated seeing Freya and didn’t remember Steinar wasn’t living there anymore. Halvorson had her rest instead of joining them for dinner. But Freya’s voice brought her outside.

Steinar drew everyone to the barn by playing a recording of Freya and himself. Halvorson shocked Freya to induce her shift state. He was studying Freya’s ability to experience Steinar’s memories.

The Answer

The Innocents Season 1 Episode 8 Recap

Steinar held everyone there with a rifle, but Halvorson knocked him out and took control of it. He shot Sigrid and killed her. He then forced June and Runa into the interrogation room where he was keeping Harry. Halvorson wanted June to shift into Runa. It had been his plan to use her to “save” Runa. Like Freya, June had the ability to retain the shifted person’s memories and could lose herself in that person. Harry overpowered Halvorson and retrieved the gun and keys. He gave them to Runa so he could leave with June, John, and Elena.

It was only Steinar and Runa left now. But Steinar had been Freya all along. Halvorson’s plan disgusted Runa, and she killed Halvorson with the rifle. At the dock, Freya confronted her mother, who admitted she had chosen Halvorson over her own daughter. She told Runa she came back to Sanctum for June, not her. Freya left Sanctum in a rowboat, leaving Runa alone.

The Chase

The Innocents Season 1 Episode 8 Recap

On the ferry to Bergen, Harry could see his mother and the police waiting for it to dock. He and June would be in the car while John stayed with Elena as she turned herself into the police. Harry peeled out of the ferry in the car, and Christine went after them.

Harry was driving fast to get away, but he blew out a tire and crashed into the woods. When he came to, he woke up June. June became conscious, but she had a stomach wound. He told her she had to shift into him and find help. However, after she shifted, Christine opened the car door and touched June while shifted. To her horror, June shifted into Christine. When she shifted back to herself, Harry was in a catatonic state, just like his father. And that’s the season finale cliffhanger!
