Seth Rogen looking to revive American Gladiators

Seth Rogen is looking to revive American Gladiators, per a report by Deadline. Rogen and his longtime partner Evan Goldberg (Sausage Party) are expected to serve as executive producers. Joe Ferraro, who produced the original series, will also be involved. The series is currently being shopped around by MGM TV in search of a distributor.

The premise of American Gladiators put regular contestants in direct competition with renowned athletes in a series of physical challenges and elaborate obstacle courses. It ran for seven seasons in syndication from 1989 to 1996, and proved so popular that other shows began to imitate its unique format. This news marks the second attempt to bring back the show. The first was in 2008, with Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali as the show’s hosts. It lasted for two seasons on NBC.

Rogan and Goldberg have been producing a number of projects together of late, including the AMC series Preacher, the teen sex comedy Blockers, and the Tommy Wiseau biopic The Disaster Artist. Their latest series, The Boys, is currently in preproduction. The superhero/CIA drama is expected to premiere on Amazon sometime in 2019.
