“Hey There Delilah” was at the forefront of many teen and tween angst when it released in 2006. After being featured in numerous TV shows in the 12 years since its release, The Hollywood Reporter is bringing word that the song is now being developed into a romantic dramedy series.

The Plain White T’s are teaming up with Lively McCabe Entertainment and Primary Wave to develop the story featured in the song, which followed a long-distance romance between a struggling singer-songwriter and a college student living in New York City and his promise to write a song for her that will change both of their lives in major ways.

The song premiered to very positive reviews from critics and became a mass hit with listeners around the country, spending 35 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, including multiple No.1 spots, and has been featured in numerous series over the years including Sesame StreetOrange is the New BlackFamily Guy and Journeyman. To this day, it remains the group’s sole No. 1 single.

“It’s been more than a decade since ‘Hey There Delila’ was released, and people always ask me about it. A whole lot of people really connected with that song, and I’m very proud of that,” lead singer Tom Higgenson said to THR. “I’m so excited to have an opportunity to give a new generation the chance to form their own connection with the song, and fall in love with its story through this new project.”

Higgenson is developing Hey There Delilah with writer Jeremy Desmon and will be pitching the series with Desmon and the producers to multiple studios and network in L.A. all this month.
