Brad Dourif to Return as the Infamous Voice of Chucky in TV Series

Following the recent announcement that Lars Klevberg will be directing MGM’s Child’s Play movie reboot, Bloody Disgusting is reporting that the original minds behind the franchise, Chucky creator Don Mancini and producer David Kirschner, have declined involvement with the film remake and are instead focusing on the Child’s Play TV series. It was also confirmed that Brad Dourif, the voice behind the killer doll, will be returning as Chucky in the series and will not be involved with MGM’s reboot.

Dourif, Mancini, and Kirschner are dedicated to continuing their story through the upcoming television series as well as through franchise studio Universal. “We’re still working on the series and also plan to continue the film franchise with Universal. We intend to stay true to the universe we’ve created,” said Mancini, who previously discussed that the film’s story arc will continue with the series, marking a unique connection between the movie franchise and television series.

Regarding the upcoming remake, Collider reports that MGM’s Child’s Play remake — supposedly still using the name Chucky — will be a “contemporary reboot involving a group of kids (a la Stranger Things) and a technologically-advanced doll that enters their world.”

The Child’s Play series has been running for 30 years, with the first film dropping in 1988 to box office success, generally positive reviews and a cult following, spawning six sequels that remained box office successes but slowly started earning more mixed and negative reviews, until the revitalized Curse of Chucky, which returned to the franchise’s horror roots and earned very positive reviews. The most recent installment, Cult of Chucky, was released on Blu-ray and video on demand last October and received strong reviews from critics. Brad Dourif has been a staple of the franchise since its inception, lending his voice to the murderous doll in all of the films.
