The Raid’s Iko Uwais joins Netflix series Wu Assassins

Netflix has announced that Iko Uwais (star of The Raid: Redemption and The Raid 2) has signed on to star in their upcoming action-crime-drama Wu Assassins. Uwais will play the role of Kai Jin, an aspiring chef who becomes the latest and last Wu Assassin, chosen to round up the powers of an ancient triad and restore balance once again.

He will also serve as producer and lead martial arts choreographer and stunt coordinator for the series. A 10 episode order has been given to Wu Assassins.

Nomadic Pictures Entertainment is producing hte series which has John Wirth (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles; Falling Skies) set as writer and executive producer.Stephen Fung will direct the first two episodes with additional directors to be announced.

Chad Oakes (Fargo; Hell on Wheels; Mike Frislev (Fargo, Hell on Wheels), and Tony Krantz of Flame Ventures (24) will also EP.

Uwais, whose other credits include the upcoming Mile 22 and 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens joins a cast that includes  Byron Mann (Altered Carbon) as Uncle Six. More casting for the series will be announced later.
