Paramount Pictures horror thriller A Quiet Place opened in first place at the domestic box office with an impressive $50 million from 3,508 theaters, an average of $14,253 per theater. Made for just $17 million, the film received a B+ CinemaScore from audiences. Internationally, A Quiet Place launched in 40 markets and grossed $21 million, for a global total of $71 million after one weekend. A Quiet Place was directed by John Krasinski, who also stars opposite his real-life wife Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe, and Millicent Simmonds. In the film, a family of four must navigate their lives in silence after mysterious creatures that hunt by sound threaten their survival.

Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One (Warner Bros. Pictures) dropped just 40% in ticket sales its second weekend in second place and added $25 million, for a total of $96.9 million. The adaptation of the Ernest Cline book was No. 1 again internationally with another $81.7 million from 65 territories to bring its overseas total to $294.4 million (with $161.3 million coming from China). The worldwide total has now reached $391.3 million. Ready Player One stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, T.J. Miller, Simon Pegg, and Mark Rylance.

Third place at the domestic box office belonged to newcomer Blockers (Universal Pictures), which earned $21.4 million from 3,379 theaters, an average of $6,345 per theater. The Kay Cannon-directed comedy, which cost $21 million to make, received a B CinemaScore. Starring Leslie Mann, Ike Barinholtz, John Cena, Kathryn Newton, Geraldine Indira Viswanathan, and Gideon Adlan, Blockers grossed $10.7 million overseas and is at $32.1 million worldwide.

Dropping one spot to fourth, Marvel Studios’ Black Panther earned another $8.4 million to push its eight-week domestic total to $665.4 million. The film has passed Titanic ($659.4 million) to become the third-biggest release of all time in North America behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.7 million) and Avatar ($760.5 million). Black Panther also added $4.5 million overseas, for an international total of $634.5 million and worldwide sum of $1.299 billion. It’s sitting at No. 10 on the all-time global list behind Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘s $1.332 billion. The Ryan Coogler-directed film stars Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.

The Erwin Brothers faith-based family drama I Can Only Imagine (Lionsgate/Roadside Attractions) rounded out the top five with $8.4 million and has earned $69 million. Costing just $7 million to make, I Can Only Imagine stars Dennis Quaid, Cloris Leachman, Trace Adkins, J. Michael Finley, Priscilla Shirer, and Madeline Carroll.

Tyler Perry’s Acrimony (Lionsgate) grossed $8 million its second weekend in sixth place and has earned $31.3 million. Written, directed and produced by Tyler Perry, Acrimony stars Taraji P. Henson, Lyriq Bent, Crystle Stewart, Jazmyn Simon, Ptosha Storey, Ajiona Alexus, Antonio Madison, Bresha Webb, Danielle Nicolet, Nelson Estevez, and Kendrick Cross.

Entertainment Studios’ Chappaquiddick debuted in seventh place with $6.2 million from 1,560 theaters, an average of $3,974. The film received a B CinemaScore. Directed by John Curran, Chappaquiddick stars Jason Clarke, Kate Mara, Ed Helms, Jim Gaffigan, Clancy Brown, Taylor Nichols, Olivia Thirlby and Bruce Dern.

Dropping two spots to eighth, Sherlock Gnomes (Paramount Pictures) added $5.6 million and has grossed $33.9 million after three weeks. The animated sequel to Gnomeo & Juliet has earned $11.9 million overseas. Directed by John Stevenson, the $59 million-budgeted film features the voices of James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Maggie Smith, Michael Caine, Ashley Jensen, Matt Lucas, Stephen Merchant, Mary J. Blige and Johnny Depp.

Legendary and Universal’s Pacific Rim Uprising dropped four spots to ninth its third weekend with $4.9  million and a total of $54.9 million. Internationally, the film has earned $212.1 million (with $98.2 million coming from China) and has grossed $267 million worldwide. Made for $150 million, Pacific Rim Uprising stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian, Rinko Kikuchi, Adria Arjona,Burn Gorman, and Charlie Day.

Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs (Fox Searchlight) increased its theater count to 554 and earned $4.6 million, good for the tenth spot. The film has made $12 million after three weeks of limited play. Internationally, it’s up to $5.4 million.
