D12’s Bizarre On Forming LARS With King Gordy, Detroit, Being A Metalhead & Meeting Twiztid

LARS, short for “the Last American Rock Stars,” is the new Detroit-based group featuring D12’s Bizarre (a.k.a. Miles High Davis) and horrorcore rapper King Gordy (e.g. Blaxl Roze). Following the premiere of the song “LARS” on the XXL Magazine website, LARS released its Foul World mixtape on October 30th. Keeping things especially local, LARS is the latest addition to the roster of Majik Ninja Entertainment, the record label of popular Detroit-based hip-hop duo Twiztid.

When the honor of doing Q&A with Bizarre comes up, you take it. Thus, below are highlights of my interview with Bizarre, who has also been working on a reality show of his own as of late. More on LARS and its members can be followed on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

What came first: the name “LARS” or the song title “Last American Rock Stars?”

Bizarre: The name “Last American Rock Stars” was first. It was the name of the album that Gordy wanted to do and I suggested that we change the name of the group to Last American Rock Stars. LARS was just the acronym to go along with it.

In the “Last American Rock Stars” video, King Gordy is seen with a Rise Against shirt and you are wearing a shirt of The Ramones. I remember that you were on The Warped Tour with D12. Did that experience lead you to listen to more punk rock?

Bizarre: I always have been a fan of heavy metal music like System Of A Down. One of the first tours that we ever went out on was with Papa Roach.

How did you and Twiztid first meet?

Bizarre: I met Twiztid at a crack house on the East Side of Detroit.

Besides you guys and Twiztid, the Detroit music scene is also responsible for Motown, Kid Rock,The White Stripes, Iggy Pop, Bob Seger and a lot of other great artists. A lot of major artists seem to leave Detroit after they become famous, but you have stayed there. What keeps you loyal to Michigan?

Bizarre: We love our city! Our city made us what we are today. Detroit forever, man. There’s no place like home.

If the rumor is true, you became known as Bizarre in elementary, given that nickname by a teacher. Since becoming famous, have you ever heard from that teacher?

Bizarre: Nope, I haven’t heard from him. Maybe you can find him for me. His name is Mr. Johnson.

LARS aside, do you have any other musical projects in the works? Or is LARS your main focus?

Bizarre: Yeah, I’mma focus on my reality show Bizarre’s World that we are trying to finish up. I have another mixtape called The Pill God, and then me and Gordy are probably going to get back to doing another LARS record.

Other than your own, what is your favorite album of 2017?

Bizarre: The best album of 2017 is our album Last American Rock Stars.

Finally, Bizarre, any last words for the kids?

Bizarre: The last words I would have for any and every kid is never give up on your dreams. Never give up fighting. Remember, success is hard work, not luck. And remember this is drug-free America — that means get your drugs for free! LARS, bitch!
