The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses

By Chris del Castillo

The Legend of Zelda series has come a long way since the release of the 1986 game on the Famicom/Nintendo Entertainment System. What started as a game from the mind of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto has become one of the most respected series in gaming history. With more than 30 years of memorable games, featuring musical scores that have immersed gamers into the world of Hyrule, comes a live concert series you can’t miss.

The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses concert series has traveled across North America and Europe for the last year, bringing music from the series to life with musical arrangements spanning nearly every main Zelda title. Last week, I had the privilege to attend the symphony at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, California, as well as interview concert producer Jason Michael Paul. (You can read it here.)

With every iteration of the concert series, you can expect to hear a few new arrangements added. And because of this, a few are removed, but you are never disappointed as the orchestra does an amazing job performing each song perfectly. One of my favorite moments is Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past’s Movement V ~ Time of the Falling Rain, which is accompanied by a video highlighting moments from the game.

It was honestly a night of nostalgia and enjoyment, as fans cheered for their favorite games. They gave very well deserved applause to everyone involved in the concert including conductor Kevin Zakresky, who at one point pulled out the Windwaker and showed it off before using it to conduct Movement III ~ The Wind Waker.

The crazy part of the night was trying to get merchandise from the pop-up shop as the line was insane. It formed early before the concert and until after the concert was done. Being able to get a shirt and poster was an achievement in itself, which should have rewarded you with the iconic sound of getting an item from a chest.

The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses concert series will run until the end of the year with the closing in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 30th. You can find locations and tickets by visiting http://ift.tt/2e79glD.
