Sicktanick – “Oculus Omnia”

As a member of the underground world known as The Wicked Shit, the one thing we’re told by our critics is that we never get personal in our music or inspire people. I’ve proven that theory wrong a few times, and often it gets ignored. I can personally say to those “same” critics that after they listen to Oculus Omnia they’re going to change their tune really fucking quick!

Oculus Omnia is the latest album released by Colorado’s Sicktanick who burst onto the scene in 2005 as Sicktanick Tha Souless.  He took the underground by storm with a different blend of the wicked shit doing shows and tours with the likes of ICP, Twiztid, Necro, and Tech N9ne. He has collaborated with iconic wicked legends like KGP, Bloodshot, Bob E. Nite, Esham, Mastamind, and Scum to name a few. He was even one of the first horrorcore rappers to have a featured interview/article in Rolling Stone!  So yeah, Sicktanick and his crew over at SKR are considered a pretty big fucking deal in the underground if you look at it. And Oculus Omnia is the official introduction of Sick into the rest of the hip hop world as his blend of the occult with horrorcore, and alternative hip hop will put the whole rap world on notice!

The title track shows that Sick keeps to his wicked roots. Then “Sinamatic” (feat. Texas Microphone Massacre) throws ya into a 360 spin with the start of some of the most personal and emotional raps I’ve heard in a long fucking time. This album in general covers everything from his motorcycle crash, heartache, the death of Geno Cultshit, and the big topic that has become pretty much a damn taboo in hip hop (if you’ve heard a single rap song in the last 4 years you’ll see what I mean when I say Taboo guys) *Dramatic Pause*  DRUG ADDICTION!  “Sinematic”, “DRUGS”, and “Hello” really tackle the addiction topic full on where “Hello” (which samples the gigantic Adele hit of the same name) also delves into every single emotion this man was feeling over the last 4 years.  Start holding back your tears now because this is the biggest surprise of this whole record. Hip Hop has been waiting for the wake-up call to get out of the current bullshit era it’s in.  I’ll bet money that Oculus Omnia is the album that does that.

All in all Oculus Omnia is in my opinion the 2017 Rap album of the year. Of course because of the genre, Sick and a lot of us are gonna get slept on, thinking it’s the same old “hack, cut, kill, repeat” without even listening to a single song from the album.  But for the ones who so give it an open mind and chance then they will think differently. In 2017, so far there’s been a resurgence in music that tackles addiction and a battle cry to help you get clean.  From Dropkick Murphys covering “You’ll Never Walk Alone” to a majority of this album from Sicktanick. This album is going to make you angry, sad, emotional, and at the very end, at peace. This is a true feel-good album, and right now it’s the best damn hip hop album out there. Bar none
