Catfish directors to write and direct Mega Man movie

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that directing team Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (Catfish, Paranormal Activity 3, Nerve) are in talks to write and direct a big screen adventure for classic video game character, Mega Man. Chernin Entertainment and actor Masi Oka (Heroes) are set to produce the film for Twentieth Century Fox.

First premiering in 1987, Mega Man has spawned an extensive lineup of video games that have crossed countless consoles, ranging from the Nintendo Entertainment System to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and with over 130 games in the series. Mega Man is known for its extensive roster of characters, it’s deep lore, and especially its soundtrack.

In the context of the games Mega Man is an android created by Dr. Light as an assistant and later redesigned for combat when Dr. Light’s assistant, Dr. Willy, reprogrammed his other androids for nefarious purposes. The series is famous for its variation on villains throughout the games which range from the likes of Oil Man and Bomb Man to Fire Man and the like.

Mega Man has gone beyond his own video games as well, appearing as one of the primary fighters in the Marvel vs. Capcom series and even Super Smash Bros. A Mega Man animated series previously aired in 1994 and another is set to arrive in 2018.
