Street Fighter V’s Ed is a mix of M. Bison and Balrog

Street Fighter V Ed
Move over Dudley, there is a new boxer in the fighting game series. Capcom recently announced Ed as the third DLC character being added to season two of Street Fighter V.

Ed first appeared in Street Fighter IV as part of Balrog’s ending. A division of Shadaloo known as S.I.N captured and experimented on him as a young boy. Its goal was to have his body be a replacement for M. Bison. As a result of the experiments, his body ages faster up until he is ready for battle.

Ed’s fighting style is pretty much what you would expect from someone who was raised and trained by Balrog. He incorporates his control of Pschyo Power with powerful and accurate punches. With these two abilities mixed together, Ed can strike quickly. He can also launch projectiles to extend his combos or keep them guessing.

Capcom revealed that Ed will play very differently from every other character. His special moves don’t require the use of inputs. Instead, Ed’s attacks are done by charging/holding a specific button, pressing a certain button combination or by rapidly pressing a button (similar to Chun-Li’s Lightning Legs in previous Street Fighter games).

Ed looks quite different than he did in Balrog’s story mode, gaining quite a bit of muscle. One thing that’s also been brought up is his character design. It looks to be a combination of various characters including M. Bison and Abel.

Let’s quickly break down his V-Skill, V-Reversal, and V-Trigger.

Ed’s V-Reversal allows him to quickly escape from his opponent and gives him plenty of room to maneuver. It’s great when your opponent is applying heavy pressure and you need some space to breath.

V-Skill: Psycho Snatcher

By throwing psycho energy as his opponents, Ed is able to pull enemies towards him instantly. This, of course, depends on how long it’s charging. You can use it against airborne enemies to extend your combo a bit.

V-Trigger: Psycho Cannon

If you played Ultra Street Fighter IV, this move may look very familiar. (Decapre’s Ultra Combo 1 uses this.) Ed unleashes a giant ball of Psycho energy that moves forward slowly. It’s great for mixing up your opponent or extending your combos.

Finally, his Critical Skill Psycho Barrage sees him unleashing a flurry of attacks on his opponent.

The release date for Ed, the upcoming Street Fighter V DLC character, is uncertain. He will be playable from May 11th to May 14th during the CFN (Capcom Fighters Network) Beta Test. It will be available for both PlayStation 4 and PC users.
