Robin Williams’ last movie, Absolutely Anything, arrives in U.S. theaters

Robin Williams was one of the most beloved entertainers of our time. The wildly talented actor/comedian was also full of energy and always had a smile on his face. And he was busy putting smiles on the faces of so many others. So, it came as such a shock to his millions of fans when he committed suicide on August 11, 2014. We were robbed of a wonderful human being. However, fans in the United States will be delighted to hear that, even after his death, they can still see him in his final role.

The new-ish film, called Absolutely Anything, was actually released in the United Kingdom in 2015, but hasn’t come out in the U.S. The movie hasn’t really performed well, though. It’s grossed a little over $2 million and hasn’t been well received by critics. (It earned a meager 18% on Rotten Tomatoes.) Nonetheless, it still has the potential to be a special experience to those who want to see him one last time.

Unfortunately, Williams isn’t the main character. The movie stars Simon Pegg as an everyman who suddenly acquires the power to do absolutely anything just like the title says. He can make his body muscular, bring back the dead or even make his dog speak. That’s where Williams comes in. He voices the dog. Maybe it’s not the best role, but it’s still Robin Williams.

Reunion

The movie is also a reunion of the original Monty Python stars John Cleese, Eric Idle and Michael Palin with Terry Jones directing. It’s based on a script Jones wrote about 20 years ago. The reunion within this film will most likely be the final one, sadly, as the filmmaker has dementia. What’s also sad is that Pegg never got to meet Williams during the film shoot.

Absolutely Anyting isn’t the only Williams project that’s been released posthumously. Night at the Museum 3 and Merry Friggin’ Christmas were released after the actor’s death. Williams was also working on several films at a time before his passing, as well as the TV series The Crazy Ones.

Absolutely Anything can be seen in U.S. theaters today.
