HBO’s Game of Thrones returns this July and from the looks of the photos recently released by HBO – a war is brewing between all houses. As Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and her army sets sail towards Westeros with Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) and Varys (Conleth Hill) by her side, Cersei Lannister (Lena Headley) and John Snow (Kit Harington) prepare for war in their respective kingdoms.
This season will see new relationships brewing – hopefully, there will be one between Tormund (Kristofer Hivju) and Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) and the return of fan favorites. Lady Mormont (Bella Ramsey), Lady of Bear Island, will be making an appearance on Team Snow in his battle for the throne. The Hound also makes his return, but after living a simple life, we’re not sure whose side he will be on.
For those who need a recap of last season of Game of Thrones, we last left King’s Landing with the suicide of King Tommen (Dean-Charles Chapman), after his wife and several other citizens were killed in a plot carried out by his mother. With the death of her final child and no other heir, Cersei was crowned the new Queen on the Iron Throne. This may cause some tension between her and her lover/brother, Jamie (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), in this coming season.
In the North, Sansa (Sophie Turner) is reunited with Jon Snow, after defeating Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) in an epic fight scene in ‘Battle of the Bastards’. After this event, Jon was set on becoming the King of the North, much to the annoyance of Littlefinger (Aiden Gillen) who began putting ideas into poor Sansa’s head about how she is the true heir.
Last season, we also learned, through Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright)’s moment of time traveling, that Jon Snow’s mother is Lyanna Stark. We could only assume that his father was King Rhaegar Targaryen. Then, Bran got a little greedy with his time traveling ability, which caused the deaths of the Three Eyed-Raven, The Children, and Hodor.
Arya Stark has left the House of Black and White to reclaim her name and title. We last left her getting revenge on the House of Frey. Oh yeah, Arya is back.
The new season of Game of Thrones returns on July 16th on HBO.
