Although Deadpool took its sweet time getting made, a sequel shouldn’t take this long to getting made, right? Well, apparently Deadpool 2 is also taking its sweet time in getting made as well. While people blame the film’s delay on the departure of Tim Miller, not much traction has gone on since David Leitch was hired to replace Miller back in November.
Collider has some insight as to why Deadpool 2 is taking so long and it has to do with the screenplay. While Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were the last remaining members of the original Deadpool team, Collider is reporting that the duo is no longer working on the script. While no details were given as to why they’re no longer working on Deadpool 2, we do know that Drew Goddard (Marvel’s “Daredevil,” The Martian, Cabin in the Woods) and Ryan Reynolds are now working on the script.
We don’t know if Reese and Wernick left under the same circumstances as Tim Miller and we don’t want to speculate. However, we do know that Reynolds is extremely passionate about the character and this isn’t something he wants to mess up. At the same time, Drew Goddard is a genius writer and has written so many awesome stuff such as The Martian, Cloverfield, and Cabin in the Woods. He also created the Daredevil series and wrote the first four episodes of the show. So the idea of those two working together should come as good news for you Deadpool fans. Hopefully, this is the last of the negative news and we can finally have some official casting and release date announcements soon.
