Nintendo’s upcoming console Switch will be installed with a default storage space of 32 GB, which is much, MUCH smaller than the competition’s 500 GB (which is also too little). Luckily, the storage can be expanded via microSD cards, most of which you can find at 128 GB, 200 GB, or 256 GB for affordable prices.
It would only make sense for Nintendo to manufacture cards of their own for additional profit, and they teamed up with Hori to do so. For now there are only 16 GB and 32 GB cards, but they cost significantly more than the other brands.
For example, the 32 GB card costs 7,900 yen in Amazon Japan, or around $70 American. You can buy a similar card by another good manufacturer for about $25! Thankfully, it looks like the Amazon pricing may be incorrect as the Hori website lists it as 3,480 yen, or $30 American. Still more expensive, but not by much.
Either way, if somebody asks me what kind of microSD to get for their Nintendo Switch, I’m going to recommend them a Samsung or SanDisk.
The Nintendo Switch launches on March 3, 2017, for the retail price of $299.99.
