There is an uneasy feeling that grows across the skies. Minions of the Lord of Terror have scattered the lands. You will encounter many dangers in your journey to rid the world as you face and endless army to attain the best loot. It will be 20 years since we first ventured down the steps to hell and became face to face with Diablo himself. This Saturday, December 31, 2016, will mark Diablo’s 20th anniversary.
On this day, Blizzard unleashed upon us one of the most popular PC games involving an epic quest in vanquishing the Lord of Terror Diablo. Choosing from 3 available classes, you hacked and slashed your way through countless demons in 16 randomly generated levels, which provided countless sleepless nights to many. Its success spawned 2 sequels, Diablo II and Diablo III, as well as several expansions. To celebrate, Blizzard is having several events take place across its many franchises to commemorate the success of Diablo.
Here is a quick breakdown for what to expect from each game, though some are a bit vague as to what is happening.
Diablo III:
Recapture the feeling of your first play through of the original Diablo with The Darkening of Tristram tribute event. Venture through a reimagined version of the original cathedral in Diablo III and keep an eye out for some familiar items.
Heroes of the Storm:
The battle for the High Heavens continues, and a new Diablo-themed portrait is up for grabs! Can you emerge victorious on this hectic new brawl map?
Hearthstone:
In this Tavern Brawl, a hooded stranger awaits, holding a grim deck in his hands. Will you unravel the secrets surrounding this dark wanderer?
Overwatch:
Bring the battle for Sanctuary into the fight for the future with in-game sprays representing your favorite Diablo III classes—along with a new player icon modeled after the Lord of Terror!
StarCraft II:
Put the Lord of Terror to work for you with a Diablo-themed worker portrait.
World of Warcraft:
Strange things are afoot in the world of Azeroth as denizens of Sanctuary cross over into an unfamiliar world.
Diablo III appears to have the biggest event compared to the rest. Being able to play the original Diablo game with the Diablo III engine sounds like fun. According to the Diablo Wiki page, The Darkening of Tristram will be a timed event that will occur every January. You will be able to experience Diablo with the updated graphics but will incorporate features and mechanics from the original game, like 8-way direction movement and classic UI graphics. Along with Diablo, you’ll face off against other classic bosses like the Butcher, The Skeleton King, and Lazarus. Several rewards for those who complete the dungeon include banners, legendary gems, transmogrification items, and a pet.
If you’ve stepped away from Diablo III, now would be a good time to come back and experience the game that started it all!
