The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2 Episode 2 Recap
In the previous episode of Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Midge went with Abe to Paris to chase after Rose. In The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 2 episode 2, Susie stayed with Midge while her parents enjoyed themselves in Paris.
“Our First Gig”
While Susie was high in the bathtub, Imogene showed up, and Midge came home. Ginger, a coworker, had read the Village Voice article about her, but hadn’t realized she was the same “Mrs. Maisel.” Imogene was worried about Archie losing his job since Joel had quit. Midge rushed Imogene out of the apartment while promising it would be all right. Joel asked Midge to meet him at an apartment. He wanted to pay for it so that she and their children could live there. Midge didn’t want that, and the idea of living on her own scared her.
Midge was also worried about the article because she hadn’t told anyone that she was a comic. Susie told her something good had come out of it. She had a real gig. However, while at the gig, Midge kept getting bumped later and later. The other male comics made fun of her and suggested she had slept with Lenny Bruce. By the time Midge was up, she was a mess, and people had left. However, she had the audience laughing and made the other comics the butt of her jokes. The booker was furious, but still paid her.
Shatterproof
Abe debated nihilism with a group of men in a café, while Rose visited the Rodin Museum with her art class. Together, they walked the streets of Paris and had intimate dinners in the little apartment.
But when Rose showed Abe a much nicer apartment they could get for “long-term”, he brought her back down to earth. He was a tenured professor at Columbia and classes started next week. They left Paris, but things weren’t quite the same. Abe pulled some strings so that Rose could audit art classes at Columbia, and he signed them up for dance classes. This cheered Rose up and took the sting out of leaving Paris.
Maisel & Roth
Joel was making some changes at his father’s clothing factory. He wanted to fire freeloaders, hire a repairman that could come every day, and had his bookkeeper look at his mother’s accounting system. They even had a “special loans book” to record mob money that they borrowed. Joel ran into Moishe while watching over the factory, so they went for a drink. He wanted to stay to help and get paid for it. He also wanted Moishe to call his brother and make sure Archie kept his job. Finally, Joel wanted his father to take out a bank loan to buy the building.
