Deadline is reporting that Albert Hughes (Alpha, The Book of Eli, Dead Presidents) will direct The Fugitive for Warner Bros., a remake of the 1993 action film based on the 1963 television series.

The classic film, directed by Andrew Davis, starred Harrison Ford as Dr. Richard Kimble and Tommy Lee Jones as the U.S. Marshal Samuel Gerard. In the movie, Dr. Kimble, unjustly accused of murdering his wife, must find the real killer while being the target of a nationwide manhunt led by the seasoned U.S. Marshal. Jones won as Oscar for his role in the film, which received seven Academy Award nominations.

Quibi is also developing a separate series adaptation of the action thriller with Kiefer Sutherland and Boyd Holbrook set to star. Sutherland will portray Detective Clay Bryce while Holbrook takes on the role of Mike Ferro.

In The Fugitive series reboot, when a bomb rips through the Los Angeles subway train he’s riding on, blue-collar Mike Ferro just wants to make sure his wife, Allison, and 10-year-old daughter, Pearl, are safe. But the faulty evidence on the ground and “tweet-now, confirm-later” journalism paint a nightmarish picture: it looks to all the world that Mike was responsible for the heinous act. Wrongfully — and very publicly — accused, Mike must prove his innocence by uncovering the real perpetrator, before the legendary cop heading the investigation can apprehend him.

The series is created by Nick Santora with Stephen Hopkins serving as the director and executive producer. The 1993 The Fugitive film which starred Harrison Ford was based on Roy Huggins’ 1960s TV series of the same name.
