I remember playing MapleStory more than a decade ago, and as it turns out, the free-to-play video game franchise is still continuing on with updates for MapleStory 1 and 2. Over the weekend, a special event was held for fans of the video games called MapleStory Fest. Over 500 Maplers attended and packed Exchange LA in Downtown Los Angeles, and they were treated with appearances from Nexon developers, live concerts, exclusive announcements and more.
MapleStory is the 2D side-scrolling, free-to-play MMORPG that was released in North America in 2005. Fast-forward 14 years and fans are still getting updates. During MapleStory Fest, Nexon announced the new Pathfinder class, which will be released on June 12th.
MapleStory 2 is the latest sequel that launched in Korea in 2015 and worldwide in 2018 that transformed the world of MapleStory into a 3D voxel-based game. A Striker class was announced that will focus on melee and combos, and it will be out on May 30, 2019. This should definitely entice fighting game players due to the combo mechanics.
Another MapleStory 2 update, Eye of Lapenta, will give Maplers new storylines, dungeons and ascendent gear. The level cap will increase to 70 and Rank 2 skills will be activated for all jobs.
As for MapleStory Fest, it was sold out in just four minutes. Along with announcements and concerts, fans were also able to build a MapleStory world using SOHO Bricks, receive free gifts, participated in raffles, and had the chance to meet with influencers.
The MapleStory-themed concert was definitely a treat for Maplers as they got to experience music from the game in a live setting.
Even though MapleStory Fest had special guests and activities, the fans are what made the event special. Cosplayers got to show off their outfits during a cosplay contest, and a few fans were able to share their love of MapleStory in front of a large audience. It goes to show you that no matter who you are in the MapleStory universe, there will be those in the community who will support you.
