Captain Marvel is hitting theaters this Friday, and the hype is getting bigger. With excitement, there is also controversy, especially when Brie Larson made comments about how there are too many white men at press events. This led to angry fans leaving negative comments on Rotten Tomatoes on the film’s audience section. The aggregated review site decided to make updates to the section including removing the comments section until after the film’s release date. Larson already responded to her previous comment, and now we have Samuel L. Jackson, who also stars in the film, giving his take on the situation.
“The mere fact that you would give voice or a platform to people who don’t normally have a platform is part of the problem,” Jackson tells BadTaste.it. “So, you can have an opinion that you really don’t have to be responsible for because nobody’s gonna see you, nobody’s gonna challenge you on it. If you want to bring somebody down or just ruin somebody’s day, you can say anything.”
The reviews are coming in, with Captain Marvel receiving mainly positive reviews from critics. Captain Marvel presales did better than Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Deadpool, and today it became Fandango’s top presales film behind Avengers: Infinity War.
Synopsis: The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The film is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck and written by Boden, Fleck, Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Jac Schaeffer from a story by Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy), Joe Shrapnel, and Anna Waterhouse. It stars Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Lee Pace as Ronin, Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, Algenis Perez Soto as Att-Lass, Rune Temte as Bron-Char, McKenna Grace as young Carol Danvers, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson and Jude Law as the Starforce Commander.
Captain Marvel flies into theaters on March 8, 2019.
