Warner Bros. is gearing up for another Batman film, and this time Ben Affleck isn’t returning. There’s a rumor that director Matt Reeves was eyeing Armie Hammer (The Social Network, The Lone Ranger), but the actor said that nobody reached out to him about the role. Now we have another rumor that Reeves is looking for a younger Batman in the late 20s range.
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s newsletter, Reeves wants a “late 20-something actor.” The outlet also says that this version of the Dark Knight is somewhere in between being a rookie and expert. They described the character as not being a rookie like in Batman: Year One and not an expert we know from the comic books. You know, the one who is keeping tabs on all the Justice League members in case one of them starts to turn.
Another actor who has been gaining support from some fans is Robert Pattinson (Twilight, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire). This would be an interesting choice, similar to when Christopher Nolan hired teen heartthrob Heath Ledger to play the Joker. However, Ledger proved many fans wrong when he played the Clown Prince of Crime. There was also hesitation when director Tim Burton chose Michael Keaton as Batman in the 1989 film, but he is considered one of the top Batmans out there.
As for Armie Hammer as Batman, the source of the rumor, Revenge of the Fan, stands by its report and says it should take a few months for this deal to close.
Yes, we’ve seen all of the various denials and “debunks.”
Yes, those were all to be expected.
Yes, we stand by our report.
It’ll take time (possibly a month+), but the truth will get out.
And if anything changes, we’ll own and acknowledge any failings on our end. pic.twitter.com/UK1L6xyQGa

As for what fans can expect from the upcoming standalone film, Reeves has mentioned that he wants a Batman who is the “World’s Greatest Detective.” He talks about how he wants a detective mode, which immediately made us think of the Batman Arkham games from Rocksteady Studios.
Matt Reeves’ The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
