Kevin Feige says Black Widow film won’t have R-rating

Black Widow movie

Disney CEO Bob Iger has said before that he doesn’t want to confuse consumers with their branding when it comes to family content and mature content. That meant R-rated movies like Deadpool will be under a different banner from the Marvel Cinematic Universe films. However, that’s not stopping a rumor from making the rounds saying that Black Widow was going to have an R-rating. Guess what, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige confirms the rumor is false.

While promoting Captain Marvel, Feige confirms that Black Widow is not going to be rated R. That means she’ll be joining the other Marvel Studios films with their PG-13 rating.

“It never was going to be,” Feige tells ComicBook.com. “Somebody writes, ‘I hear it’s R-rated!’ And then everybody writes it up.”

So far Marvel Studios has been keeping quiet with revealing what movies will officially come out after the release of Avengers: Endgame. Spider-Man: Far From Home is a different story since Sony wanted to promote the film earlier because it’s releasing soon after Endgame.

“There are no mandates to make any more than two films a year,” Feige explained. “As we’ve seen in the last couple years, when it naturally happens and when there are ideas and when there are teams ready to go, we’re not going to hold something back. We’ll make it.”

Scarlett Johansson will return as Black Widow in the standalone film with Cate Shortland attached as director and Jac Schaeffer as the screenwriter.

Audiences will get to see Johansson return as Black Widow before the standalone film when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26, 2019.

Other movies we can expect from Marvel Studios include The Eternals, Black Panther 2, Doctor Strange 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Shang-Chi.

Black Widow is based on the comic book character created by Stan Lee, Don Rico, and Don Heck. She made her first appearance in 1964’s Tales of Suspense #52.
