Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice 10 minutes of gameplay preview

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice had recently released a video of the gameplay and it’s enough to tickle your fancy. If you’re a huge fan of Dark SoulsBloodborne, or Nioh, the gameplay looks to follow that similar format of punishing the players with difficult gameplay. All of this coupled with the live, die, resurrect repeat motif.

Much like Dark SoulsNioh, and Bloodborne, the gameplay in this video actually shows something that was once used in a similar Japanese-themed game: Tenchu. In Tenchu, you were a ninja in feudal Japan that utilized that grappling hook to traverse through the environment as you assassinated your enemies via stealth. It looks like in Sekiro, you can accomplish this through the same format. However, you get punished dearly if you fail at an assassination attempt or miss an attack. The enemies actually look like they’re working as a unit and will definitely tear you apart for your failures.

Also, did that giant ogre just do a WWE dropkick?!

This game has actually got me really excited as it’s been a while since I’ve personally played a well made, Japanese-themed, third-person perspective, stealth game. Of course, there’s the addition of the Dark Souls fear of dying consistently because of difficult enemies. It looks like Sekiro is the birth child if Onimusha had a threesome with Tenchu and a masochist.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will be available on March 22, 2019
