They Cloned Tyrone: Jamie Foxx & Teyonah Parris joins Netflix’s new sci-fi film

Nearly a year after we last heard an update on Netflix’s They Cloned TyroneDeadline brings word that Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx (Ray) and Teyonah Parris (WandaVision) have officially signed on to star opposite Star Wars alum John Boyega in director Juel Taylor’s upcoming3 sci-fi film. In addition, Foxx is also expected to serve as a producer along with Datari Turner.

This project marks Foxx’s latest collaboration with Netflix after recently starring in the superhero film Project Power which is now available for streaming. The 52-year-old actor will next be seen in Pixar’s Soul, Blumhouse’s Spawn, and in the Mike Tyson biopic.

Parris’ notable film credits include: 2014’s Dear White People, Spike Lee’s Chi-Raq and Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk. She is also set to star in two high-profile projects including Nia DaCosta’s Candyman reboot and Disney+’s highly-anticipated MCU series WandaVision.

They Cloned Tyrone will follow an unlikely trio as they investigate a series of eerie events, alerting them to a nefarious conspiracy lurking directly beneath their hood. The film is being described as a pulpy sci-fi mystery caper that is likened to “Friday meets Get Out.”

The film will be the directorial debut of Creed 2 writer Juel Taylor, who penned the script along with Tony Rettemaier. It is produced by MACRO’s CEO Charles D. King with Taylor, Rettenmaier and Stephen “Dr.” Love also serving as producers. It is also executive produced by Macro’s Mark R. Wright and Jack Murray.

Boyega gained worldwide recognition for his role as Finn in the Star Wars film franchise. He first appeared in the 2015 The Force Awakens and was last seen in 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. He will next be seen in Steve McQueen’s anthology series Small Axe and the film Naked Singularity.
