Variety has brought word that modern horror master James Wan is returning to his genre roots for his next project before returning to the underwater world of Aquaman 2 with a secret film set up at New Line Cinema.

The film, whose plot is being kept under wraps, is being co-written by Wan and Ingrid Bisu, who starred in The Nun and who recently got engaged to the 42-year-old Australian director. Wan will also produce the film through his Atomic Monster banner alongside Michael Clear.

DC Comics fan don’t have to fret, however, as Wan’s current plan is to direct the project this fall in Los Angeles and then move into pre-production on the sequel to last year’s critical and commercial smash Aquaman.

Long before he found a name for himself in the blockbuster action industry with his work on Furious 7 and Aquaman, Wan was shaping the horror genre for modern audiences, having co-created the Saw and Insidious franchises and New Line Cinema’s The Conjuring Universe, which has grossed over $1.8 billion on a combined $139.5 million budget, becoming the second highest-grossing horror franchise ever behind Godzilla.

Aquaman became the biggest success for DC films, which have a history of faltering at the box office, with the exception of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman. It grossed over $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office, earning its spot as the highest grossing DC film of all-time for Warner Bros, and revealed the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry (Momoa) and took him on the journey of his lifetime — one that forced him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.
