Sonic design change coming after negative trailer feedback

Earlier this week the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog movie arrived, and fan reception wasn’t ideal. The design for the titular hedgehog was criticized because of his physique, a more human-like appearance than the stylized limbs of the character in the video games, in addition to his visible teeth. Currently the trailer has 452 thousand thumbs down on YouTube with 271 thousand thumbs up.

Now, director Jeff Fowler has taken to Twitter to announce that the design for Sonic will be altered for the final movie.

“Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design & you want changes. It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… #sonicmovie #gottafixfast”

The film is set to debut on November 8, giving the visual effects team just six months to make all of the changes that they plan. Furthermore, the internet has already been flooded with marketing materials for the film, highlighting the look and design of the character.

The cast for Sonic the Hedgehog includes Jim Carrey as Doctor Robotnik/Eggman, Sonic’s villainous rival; James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, a police officer who teams up with Sonic to thwart Eggman’s evil schemes; Adam Pally (The Mindy Project, Iron Man 3) as Tom’s fellow police officer; Tika Sumpter and Natasha Rothwell. Neal McDonough (Captain America: The First Avenger), Sumpter and Rothwell’s roles are currently under wraps. Ben Schwartz provides the voice for Sonic in the film.
