Director Michael Dougherty would be ‘annoyed’ if King Kong won in Godzilla vs. Kong

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is now out in theaters, and once audiences and fans have seen the movie, they’ll be ready for the next film in the MonsterVerse, Godzilla vs. Kong. Michael Dougherty, who directed and co-wrote Godzilla: King of the Monsters, reveals who he’s rooting for, and the answer shouldn’t be all that surprising.

“It’s hard,” Dougherty replied to Nerd Reactor about who he wants to see win. “I love them both. It’s like I almost don’t want to see them fight, but a dark part of you is like, ‘Let them fight.’ Umm, Godzilla is my guy. If Kong won over Godzilla, I would be annoyed, but I acknowledge that the possibility exists. I would rather see them put aside their differences at some point, as long as it’s maybe to fight a greater threat. I don’t know. It’s a tricky one. Ultimately, in a fight between Kong and Godzilla, the audience wins.”

Synopsis: The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

The film is directed and written by Michael Dougherty (Krampus) with Zach Shields as the co-screenwriter. It stars Kyle Chandler (Super 8), Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring), Millie Bobby Brown (Netflix’s Stranger Things), Bradley Whiteford (Get Out), Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), Charles Dance (HBO’s Game of Thrones), Thomas Middleditch (HBO’s Silicon Valley), Aisha Hinds (Star Trek Into Darkness), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), David Strathairn (Godzilla), Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai, Batman Begins), and Ziyi Zhang (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon).

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is now in theaters, and Godzilla vs. Kong arrives in theaters on March 13, 2020.
