Captain Marvel has been a topic of controversy ever since Brie Larson commented about how press events had too many white men. This led to angry fans putting negative comments on Rotten Tomatoes’ audience section, which in turn had the aggregated review site remove the comments section until the movie is released. Now the Captain Marvel reviews are out, and the Mary Sue says that all the negative reviews are coming from men. However, this resulted in a swarm of people correcting the site.
The Mary Sue shared a tweet online with the caption: “All the negative reviews for Captain Marvel are from men.”
Of course, people quickly fired back. Some corrected them by posting reviews of women who didn’t like Captain Marvel, and others called them out for lying.

Are you guys above retracting or correcting obviously wrong and stupid articles? Stop this kind of sexist crap. Seriously. Isn't your website supposed to be against sexism? "make geekdom safe and open for everyone." Or are clicks more important now? @RachelLeishman

This is incredibly irresponsible “journalism”. This is the literal definition of “fake news” and I know that’s a trigger for a lot of folks so let me explain it – fake news is the colloquial term for reporting that eschews facts to advance an agenda. This is embarrassing for you

You're trying to assume that there's no negative reviews from women when actually there are. Isn't that discrediting female reviewer's voices? Isn't that like suppressing women from voicing their opinion & making as if their opinions don't exist? pic.twitter.com/1BsOPoRjvu
