Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s final season to focus on Rebecca starting over

With the final season of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend ahead of us, you can expect creators Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKenna to finish it with a bang. The duo knew how they wanted to end things for Rebecca and the journey she would go through each season.

“The very end, the last scene has always been the same,” said Brosh Mckenna during Comic-Con’s Hall-H panel. “Generally, directionally, we knew what every chapter of the four was going to be.”

“We knew the emotional swings,” Bloom added.

We last left Rebecca pleading guilty for attempted second-degree murder, instead of pleading insanity, despite a suicide attempt and being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD). This coming season will show Rebecca dealing with her actions and come to terms with her BPD.

“How do you implement this into your life?,” Bloom said during the press interviews at Comic-Con. “How do you make this practical? That’s the focus of this season.”

As for new music, the cast hinted at a version of Chicago‘s ‘Cell Block Tango’ during Rebecca’s time in prison during their Hall-H panel. Bloom shared, “This is relevant in a way that we are excited for you to see.”

Each season, the series showcases a new theme song. Bloom gave the audience a sneak peek of the theme song.

The final season will also see the return of some favorites, including Patton Oswalt, who played Castleman, the creepy security guard who had a thing for Paula in season 2. This time, Brosh McKenna revealed that Oswalt will be singing a song too.

With 18 episodes this season and only two-thirds the way done, Bloom and Brosh McKenna haven’t felt the inevitability of the end.

“It doesn’t feel like the end for us,” Bloom shared. “Not yet.”

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend returns for its final season on October 12th on The CW.
