Marvel just released the official trailer to their latest Disney XD superhero shorts Marvel Rising: Initiation. This series focuses on the female superheroes that are loved, but not really known by many, including Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Ghost-Spider (a.k.a. Spider-Gwen), Quake, Patriot, and Inferno.
Known as the next generation of Marvel superheroes, Marvel Rising: Initiation will consist of six animated shorts leading up to the premiere of Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, which is set to air in the fall on the Disney Channel.
The story is centered around superhero Ghost-Spider (aka Spider-Gwen aka Gwen Stacy who has spider powers), who is on the run from the law after she is framed for her friend’s murder. Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Quake, and Patriot have to bring her in, but they are all faced with a bigger threat and must fight together.
This will be the first animated feature that will be centered around diverse voices from all shapes and sizes. Ms. Marvel aka Kamala Khan (Kathleen Khavari) – Marvel’s first Muslim-American superhero – and Squirrel Girl (Milana Vayntrub)’s friendship will be featured heavily in the series. The series will also include Miss America aka America Chavez (Cierra Ramirez), Marvel’s first Latino-American LGBT hero; Quake (Chloe Bennet, who also plays the live version on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.); Gwen Stacey aka Ghost-Spider/Spider-Gwen (Dove Cameron), who is also set to appear on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.; Inferno (Tyler Posey); Patriot (Kamil McFadden); an Inhuman named Exile (Booboo Stewart); Captain Marvel (Kim Raver); and, Tippy Toe and Lockjaw (both voiced by Dee Bradley Baker).
Marvel Rising will host a panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday at 3:15 pm in Room 6DE. The panel will include the cast of the series, including Cameron, Bennet, Vayntrub, Khavari, and McFadden. Amanat, Marvel SVP of animation Cort Lane, writer Mairghread Scott, and Animation VP Marsha Griffin will be on the panel as well.
Marvel Rising: Initiation premieres on August 13 on Disney XD.
