It’s the end of the year so you know what that means! No, we’re not talking about Star Wars. What we’re talking about is awards season. It’s that time of the year where studios begin their awards push for various awards shows and guild to nominate their films. Well, the awards season is in full swing as the Los Angeles Online Film Critics Society has announced its list of nominations for its inaugural awards show. Leading the pack is Guillermo del Toro’s latest film The Shape of Water. The monster romance film received 11 nominations including Best Picture. Next up is A24’s Lady Bird which was able to nab 9 nominations with Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk close behind with 8 nominations.
In addition to your atypical categories, the LAOFCS nominations include a “Best Animated/Visual Effects Performance” and “Best Stunts” category. The inclusion of these categories is something that, in my opinion, are categories that need to be included in every awards ceremony.
